United Nations?
India along with Germany, Japan and Brazil put in a draft resolution at the U.N for new permanent members for the security council (READ). And this comes supposedly after objections from the United States (U.S has actually warned India) and of course China, their take is that new members are welcomed as long as you leave the veto power demand at the door. Their argument being that more members with veto power would lead to stalling and disagreements, slow down the security council. After all the security council at present works like a charm and is a prime example of political efficiency and universal brotherhood (note: sarcasm). Forget veto power, the very thought of having more permanent members has not been welcomed with open arms, only after much ass-kissing and maneuvering did the idea of reform come about.
The security council is very much not a great example of equality, by inducting more permanent members representing the world at present would only make sense. After all the U.N has been losing its relevance a lot lately especially after U.S invaded Iraq and the more recent Iraqi-Oil scandal. The case of contender countries is strong, Brazil is the largest country in South America and would represent that Continent, Germany and Japan being the largest economies in the world. South Africa would be representative of the African Continent. When it comes to India, the denial is more puzzling as its 1/6 of humanity, largest democracy in the world. It actively sends troops for peace-keeping missions, when was the last time you heard of Chinese peace-keeping troops. Still sharing power isn't something that takes place at the U.N, adding irony to the name.
