Its been 11 days since i posted on the blog, long gap due to certain circumstances, but i am back and writing with renewed confidence in my writing ability due to my english midterm. I write to you today-the day of giving thanks or as i like to call it the day of the turkey (gobble gobble gobble).
Finally, after 2 1/2 years in America, i had the traditional turkey dinner hoopla and it was D-elicious. I can already feel the tryptophan (http://home.howstuffworks.com/question519.html) kicking in. First of all, I want to thank Alex's mom for that amazing dinner and for giving this poor indian kid a home-cooked meal after a long time, wasn't tandoori chicken but close enough. Comparing this to Indian holidays--obviously there are differences and also certain commonalities. However, holidays here are fixed--people mostly do the same exact thing year after year and so on. When you compare this to India, say diwali--first of all --the date changes each year ! therefore, plans are always different each year...ofcourse the whole routine stays the same but still it keeps you on your toes...You never know what you'll get each year. I say this from my own experience..even though sadly i haven't celebrated diwali or anything else in 2 years. But, it always seemed like something new each year. Well, diwali does mean out with the old and in with the new.
Well getting back to thanksgiving---it was really fascinating sitting down for turkey dinner with a regular American family. And surprisingly, it felt like home--the whole experience was just like another special dinner at home---quiet, nice and warm.
The Turkey Dinner:
-12 pound Deep Fried Turkey
- Masher potatoes with garlic 'n herb seasoning
- String Bean casserole
- Stuffing made with bread, mushrooms, onions etc.
- Dressing (not sure what it was made out of--but really tasty)
-Pumpkin Pie (Surprisingly tasty)
-Apple pie and Ice cream
After eating all this..i honestly could not walk.
This whole week i have been watching Seinfeld (For those who don't know about the show, it was the highest rated sitcom on TV during the last decade, started in 1989-90 uptil 1998, it has been called one of the best shows in Television history and personally its one damn funny show).
All the seasons and all the episodes... starting backwards with the last season and right now i am at Season 3. I have watched all the seasons before, but they i find them funnier everytime i see them again. Some people don't really like Seinfeld--i mean hate it...because they don't like the characters...but hey give it a shot --watch it episode and season-wise if you can and believe me you'll understand it better and it's going to be really funny.
All the characters are not supposed to be 'nice' people but basically somewhat normal people just in different situations and the fact that they are funny makes it better. Seinfeld got off the air in 1998 and it is still on TV nearly 4 times a day in syndication. Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David continue to make money, they have earned upto $300million after the show got off the air and they continue to cash in from the show which is going to be timeless. Well i am off to watch it right now.
George: Why don't they keep salsa on the table like everything else? Salsa is now the no. 1 condiment in America!
Jerry: You know why that is , because people love saying 'Salsa' all the time !
Serenity Now!
